"Brad Meltzer's Decoded" should be back in January with new shows - it is still in production. "Ancient Aliens" will be back for a 5th season, probably in February.

We love and use the site often. It’s very well done.

I just finished watching the 1980 miniseries Shogun on Encore. I remember watching it as a high-schooler. But I also remember either a sequel, spinoff or similar miniseries in which the European castaway helped the Japanese emperor or some other potentate to mount a sea-borne invasion of another country. Perhaps China? It seems to me I remember this being set in the same period…ca. 1600. But I don’t recall if Richard Chamberlain was involved. It was so long ago.

Might any of your particularly astute readers have an idea? Was there such a miniseries or am I becoming increasingly confused in my dotage? (I suppose it’s also possible that there were portions of Shogun that were originally televised but that – for whatever reason – didn’t make it into the package that Encore offered.
Help!

There was a Japanese series in the 90's called "Shogun Iemitsu Shinobi Tabi", but I don't know of any others. Anyone else know?

Ian, who wrote those articles, has left TV Hell to work on a book. Hopefully he will return when he has the time. We have a few new potential writers that I am hoping will tackle topics like that. I can tell you that the ratings for "Last Resort" don't look promising. It started off on Sept 27th with a 7 share, and dropped to a 6, then a 4, and most recently a 5. November 15 is the last scheduled show and if the numbers don't rise, I wouldn't expect it to return.

SyFy is pretty band about not promoting their shows and cancelling them when they aren't an instant hit. The show had a great story based on the Butcher books, the acting was only so-so, but it would have improved. There's a good chance that if FX had this show it would have lasted much longer, in my opinion.

Apparently the host was a bit of a B.S. artist and not easy to get along with too...according to a friend of mine who used to work at Discovery.

I didn't think the casting was appropriate. Dustin Hoffman, at least for me, wasn't believable as a tough guy type.
