A friendly comment. Your site is using "it's" incorrectly, as in this partial sentence copied from your site:

"It's" means "It is," so there should be no apostrophe when it is used like this.

I'm not too surprised. Leno pulled in better numbers in that time slot and that's what it's all about. I do agree that Conan did have a weaker lead-in than Jay had, and that was probably a major factor. NBC has their work cut out for them. They have to rebuild pretty much everything in prime time to please the affiliates for their lowered ad revenue and poor news lead-in, and they have to hope that Leno will go back to topping Letterman, let alone Conan on another network.

Last April, Dawn Ostroff, the disastrous director pf programming of the CW, announced that it would be airing "Blonde Charity Mafia", a show about three Washington DC socialites who pretty much dominate DC's social charity events, along with a reality show, "Hitched Or Ditched". However, the reality show was horrible; it never shoulda aired, and the net held up running BCM until the summer season was over. Now it appears that the CW has decided not to air BCM at all. Somehow, I don't think too many folx give a hoot.

I can't imagine that it was any good. Most people in DC have all of the personality of a box of rocks - it's where nerds move, make a name for themselves or grow up, and move out of. I've been stuck in that area for some time. A show about these people who are devoid of any character and personality couldn't possibly be entertaining.

Yup, Saving Grace is wrapped, but "new" episodes will continue to air this season. I think that they could fit "Deadly Women" on ID without bumping a first run show, so it's probably some re-tooling that is needed or just a cancellation for "Scene of the Crime" in it's future.

Nip/Tuck finished filming its 100th and final episode on June 12, 2009. Show creator creator Ryan Murphy is no longer on board and F/X is airing the last season (19 episodes) beginning Wednesday October 14th with a short run, and again in the Spring with the final 7 or so.

With that being said, it still doesn't detract from your website. Thanks for all the work you put into the site. I wish you great success!

Thanks - Not a show that I watched....!

After tonight's season finale to "The Bachelor", will that show return in the fall since "Dancing With The Stars" and the new crime show "Castle" will be in their vacant spot next week?

And when "Samantha Who?" returns on March 26th that means "Ugly Betty" will be on hiatus and maybe moving to Fridays or more less?

The Bachelor will most likely return, but possibly in a different time slot. Castle will be air Monday March 9th... No word on Ugly Betty other than it is expected to be picked up again.

Thanks for the kind words! ABC is contractually obligated to air the 3 remaining episodes, and my best guess is that they will air after "sweeps" is over and most likely at a down time, like a holiday weekend evening. They have to air by summer is what I have been told, so no later than the end of June, unless they choose to buy out of the contract somehow...which isn't likely.

I’ve been trying to find the name of a really, truly awful, short lived TV show from about 1987 or 1988. It was about a man who had a house that could…get this…..talk! And everything in the house could talk or interact in some way. It would have been on either CBS or NBC as those were the only channels we got. My husband remembers also it being very short lived and remembers it being really awful. It might have lasted two or three episodes. I think the man in the show was a scientist of some kind. If you could give us the name of this show or any more details about it, that would be great.

The only thing that I can think of like that is "Pee-Wee's Playhouse", a kids show, but it lasted for more than a season. Anyone else know?

Hi Rich: There was a series that ran for a short time, I think in the 90's. A catholic priest who had lots of doubts with his faith. A nun on his staff wanted to be ordained but couldn't. They covered lots of touchy issues, well written. Most episodes ended with him sitting in a small bay-window space in his apartment on a kneeling prayer bench listening to jazz. Once it was a great jazz song about "not time to commit suicide yet."

I'd love to know the name of the series and cast, and maybe even find that song. I do appreciate your extensive knowledge and response.

From Ian: This one wasn't all that hard to find, I think the show Michael's looking for is Father Dowling Mysteries which aired on NBC for its first season in 1987 and then aired two more season on ABC.

When you listed the TV show "Hunter," you described it as a show from the mid 90s. Actually, if you are referring to the police show starring Fred Dryer, it debuted in the Fall of 1983. And what do you mean "Futurama" never took off? It lasted a few seasons, at least!

I'll update the "Hunter" listing. "Futurama" while on Fox never had good ratings and certainly never came close to "The Simpsons". Fox believed in the show and tried it on several different nights, but ultimately it never got ratings. The re-runs on Cartoon Network have done very well and the DVD sales have been good too, which is why the show was sort-of brought back, this time as a direct to DVD show, and split up for Cartoon Network. The original run on Fox though... Not so good.

I know NBC is having an abysmal season, but this is a new low for them, airing a show in a stupid genre that has all-but-died from TV! I predict it'll quickly tank, & be cancelled, the sooner the better. It's the kinda show that makes me glad I have 115 channels, these PCs, & videogame consoles!

Well, "reality" shows are cheap and they are hoping to save money. Expect NBC to shy away from scripted costly shows for a while - and they just signed Jay Leno for a nightly 10PM show which again should be a money saver. It's a pretty big gamble...

Loox as if FX's "The Riches" isn't so rich now. After a season shortened by the writers' strike, which saw a significant ratings drop, FX decided to axe it without making any more eps.

Another one bites the dust.

The strike was especially harsh to the newer shows - they just were forgotten. Thanks!

Loox as if the first casualty of the new season is Fox's "Do Not Disturb". Given its pathetic ratings & the botched order of the episodes that did air, I don't blame Fox a bit. It was a clinker from the gitgo.

Friday Night Lights is a weird one. it is returning on DirecTV on October, but will come back to NBC in late January, 2009. "Lost" will be back on ABC in mid-January 2009.

It hasn't been officially cancelled, but is on "hiatus". It doesn't look good since the show saw a huge ratings drop from season 1 to season 2, but it isn't official yet.

Loox as if Sci-Fi has cancelled "Stargate Atlantis", but the 2nd half of this season will be aried as planned, beginning in January2009, through its hundredth episode. Also, there are plans to make a 2-hour SA movie, & if it's successful, more could follow.

Thanks! It was announced on August 20th that it will indeed stop after 100 episodes, giving it enough shows to do syndication and another DVD, where sci-fi shows make a lot of money.

Things have been slow lately; the ole axe hasn't been swung a lot lately. But it appears "Passions" is done. The soap's execs couldn't find another outlet to air their show, so when DirecTV aired the finale, that was all, folx! It's history.

Thanks! TV Hell will get busy in September / October for sure...!

Apparently, HBO has cancelled "Tell me You Love Me", as its writer, Cynthia Mort, apparently developed some sorta 'writer's block' for the show & couldn't decide which way to go with the story. However, I doubt if too many people will give a hoot that it's gone.

Thanks! HBO hasn't been getting very lucky with it's own shows lately...

I suppose that the ABC TV summer series "Dance Machine" which is seen every Friday nite is already cancelled right? and "Dirty Sexy Money" is returning next season - good and so will "Ugly Betty" and "The Bachelor" (Who's the new bachelor boy?) and on that new "Bachelor" show will a new host replace Chris Harrison?

"Dance Machine" had a 5 episode order and so far ABC hasn't ordered any more, but also hasn't said "no" to bringing it back as a mid-season replacement. It's a "we'll see" thing right now. The new "Bachelor" still hasn't been picked, but Jason Mesnick from Seattle is said to be on the short list. No change in the host.

Mary: I hope you can help. I am trying to identify a TV show that I only saw a few time between 1994-1998. A female lead 20 something was planning to get married, and by chance met a guy that she fell for. She was pretty, short dark hair. He was living in a loft or something with a freight elevator that opened in his living room. He was tall, dark-haired, great looking.

Her family didn't know about him. He had a brother or friend that she met, maybe even a sister. He had to work, she was from a more privileged background.

It came on before Once and Again opened -- and I thought it had a similar title. I have searched through your lists and everything related I can find. You are right -- finding the right title is tough. Help!!!!

It was a show called "Ned and Stacey" it starred Debra Messing and Thomas Haden Church. According to imdb it aired from 1995 - 1997. But that is the exact show the person needed help finding.

The only reason I even remember it was cause of the freight elevator.

Oh yeah! Thanks!

I remember tuning to "Thunder Alley" expecting a show about auto racing or racers. Instead, it was a dull, unfunny "family" comedy show about a retired driver(Asner) getting back close to his daughter & grandchildren. I was disappointed, & so were a lotta others, enuff of us that the show was cancelled after 2 seasons. (Shoulda been gone before that long!) And it was on ABC.

Thanks!

Hey Rich,
Your site is awesome! I tried searching for this show on your site, but it wasn't there. It was called "Thunder Alley." It starred Ed Asner and a very young Haley Joel Osment. It ran for one season 1994-95. I think it was on Fox. I remember watching Haley and seeing that he had "something." My wife and I are movie and tv nuts. I'm happy to contribute. Thanks. "O"

Thanks! I started the "TV Hell" list with the 1998 season - for no real reason other than it had to start somewhere and that was the year that this site was posted. Try posting in the "Forum" and hopefully someone will know. Thanks so much for the kind words and any input is always greatly appreciated!

People might have fun with their "Save-My-show", but after the "Jericho" debacle, they're pretty much in vain.

"TV Series Finale" is a very good site and I know that we share a lot of readers. I also agree that it will be very hard to bring a show back from TV Hell these days, but there is always some chance... It seems more likely that a show would be picked up on another network than brought back on the original network. "Scrubs" is a good example.

Subject: "Bringing back cancelled shows..."

I understand CBS took quite a hit by bringing "Jericho" back, and it's very unlikely that any net will now bring back any show it cancelled due to low ratings. Now, while five million is no small number, & 5 million letters would fill a fair-size storage space, it's a miniscule percentage of available US TV viewers, not nearly enough to keep the sponsors happy who are paying big bux to a major net to run their ads. It's common sense to realize that if a show has low viewership, cancelling & then reviving it is NOT gonna increase its viewership above what it was before it was cancelled!

A like example is "American Gladiators". The old AG had a unique flavor that the new version just doesn't have, and TV Land had grown tired of the original show. Anyone who has ESPN Classic can see reruns of the old AG every day, and I've watched both the old & the new for comparison. The new version will be on Page 3 any day now, as its viewership is minimal. I wouldn't expect to see this show ever made again.

Just some thoughts. You are quite right to say that when a show is cancelled due to being ratings-challenged, we might as well consider it toast, & if we wanna see it again, look for it in syndication on a "minor" channel, or on DVD.

Fellerzz, you're doing a great job here! You have many more readers than you think; mosta them don't send you Emails, etc. I just wanted you to know your work is APPRECIATED, & to encourage you to keep it up!

It seems that the few shows that were brought back due to viewer response have ended up failing anyway. "Family Guy" was brought back and became successful thanks to high DVD sales and solid ratings with it's re-runs on Cartoon Network. That's a big rarity though. Thanks for the kind words about TV Hell! TV Hell is currently in it's 10th year now and is growing a little every year. Not bad for a site that I originally did just to learn html! Maybe someday we can get some advertisers and I can retire from my day job...! Thanks to you for contributing in the Mailbag and giving me a 'heads up' with shows that get the axe - I appreciate it very much.

There isn't a lot that you can do, but once in a blue moon enough outcry will bring a show back. Your best bet would be to write the network (Emails don't seem to mean as much for some reason) and do a search for a fan group - there might be a grass roots level thing starting up that you could be a part of to try and bring a show back. Chances are extremely slim that anything will work though...
