The nets don't have an axe swinging right now; they've got a chain saw singing!

On May 12, ABC cancelled "Cashmere Mafia" & "Miss Guided". These were expected, as their viewership had fallen to under 5 million for fresh eps.

On May 13, CBS cancelled "Moonlight", but its last ep in the can will air at its regular time. However, this show might well move to the CW. they need something, ANYTHING, on CW, REALLY BAD! Right now, "Moonlight" easily outdraws any CW show, so it couldn't help but boost the CW!

As for the CW, they haven't officially cancelled their recent wave of stupid realish shows that never shoulda aired, but if some insider reading this would dig a little deeper than we can, perhaps the following may grace Page #: "Pussycat Dolls Presents, Farmer wants A wife, Crowned, and Beauty & The Geek". Several reporters have said nene of these will return, and I hope they're right! (Ostroff's stupidest move in several years was dumping "Smackdown", their most-viewed show! Demographics or not, NO successful businessperson takes his best seller off the market!)

As for ABC: Besides the cancellations listed elsewhere, here are some shows that have apparently been ended: "pocket veto..."Notes From the Underbelly", which was a piece of garbage that never should have aired. While there are 8 unaired episodes in the can, ABC has no plans to show them. "Oprah's Big Give" - This'n won't be back for the simple reason Oprah doesn't wanna do it any more. "Just for laughs", a "Candid camera" clone, while not officially cancelled, was simply not included in ABC's lineup announcement.

While fans of "Back To You" are trying to mount a campaign to save the show, the nets have most likely learned a lesson from the recent unsuccessful revival of "Jericho", and don't wanna get burned again. They know the furor, if ignored, will simply fade away, and the fans will simply move on to other shows.

That's all I have for now. I will keep an eye on the other nets, &, GOD WILLING, will bring you the skinny as it happens. I hope "mastaclocksetta" & others keep up their good work!

Thanks! A few of the ABC shows are not on the schedule - but are waiting as mid-season replacement shows when the new batch get cancelled...

"How I Met Your Mother" is doing well enough to be back. "Rules of Engagement" is iffy. It's losing viewers from a great lead-in, and that's never a good sign. It's chances right now of returning are 50/50 at best. "Reaper" is "on the bubble" - so much so that the star of the show (Bret Harrison) is trying to rally fans to petition The CW to save the show on his personal website.

Heroes, Life, Dirty Sexy Money, October Road, Lipstick Jungle, and New Amsterdam will all be back this Fall. Private Practice is on hiatus and ABC will make a decision on that most likely in July when the Fall schedule is released. Eli Stone is probably coming back for a second season, but not definate yet, Canterbury's Law is on hiautus and it doesn't look too good for that show (ratings starved), and Army Wives is set to come back at some point, but no date yet.

I don't know what happened to last weeks "First 48", but it is scheduled for this Sunday at 9PM Eastern time on A&E. "Your Mama Don't Dance" did well for Lifetime, so even though it hasn't been announced, I would be surprised if it didn't return in the Fall.

Second, regarding EXTRAS, the show came to a normal end, there were only 12 episodes (6 episodes per season) as you state but the series came to an end with a series finale episode, it wasn’t cancelled. This is normal for the show’s creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant which previously were writers on the show THE OFFICE which was also a 12 episode series divided into two seasons and a series finale (The Christmas Special).
Ok, keep up the good work and again great site!
Cheers!

Also, do you have any information on Supernatural and when it might be back? This season has been awesome and the last episode where they fought all the demons off at the police station was outstanding! And the surprise ending with the little girl was cool too. Can't wait to see the showdown the Winchester boys have with this little demon seed that looks like Damien's sister.

Thanks and peace out.

Unfortunately the writers strike had a lot to do with some shows getting cancelled. In one of their more astute moves, the CW has decided to end its airing of "Smackdown" Sept. 12, 2008. http://www.mediaweek.com
What kinda intelligence is that? What net drops its MOST-VIEWED program for no good reason? It was certainly making them money!
“There was absolutely no audience flow to any of our other shows,” a CW insider said. “No one who watched Smackdown watched any of our other shows on any other night."
Trouble is, no one is watching any of their other shows anyway!
Their "entertainment" director, Dawn Ostroff, has a history of dropping their most-viewed shows anyway, such as "Gilmore Girls". When is CBS gonna wake up and drop Ostroff? Maybe not at all! Maybe they're just trying to make CW fail. If that's the case, they're succeeding nicely!

I figure someone else will quickly pick up "Smackdown" soon as possible, & it won't miss a week of air time. I figure it'll outlast the CW!

It seems like The CW is targeting teenage girls and early 20-something girls, so "Smackdown" definately doesn't fit with that. I do think that the target audience isn't exactly flocking to the network and some major changes need to happen with programming at The CW. Heck, right down to the look of the network it's bad. That hideous logo and odd color scheme to the promo's just looks rinky-dink low budget. If you're targeting young people, looking retro-cheese isn't exactly a good move...! You're right about "Smackdown" being picked up elsewhere - I'm sure it won't miss a week.

The series has since aired all of the episodes that were completed before production halted. Some sites rumored NBC had canceled the show but a NBC Universal Media Studios spokesperson told the press that the show has not been cancelled and that production will continue when the WGA strike ends.
PS - I Love your site.

Thanks Matt. There are 5 shows that are still on order and have yet to be completed due to the WGA strike. Those shows will likely air, but most likely that will be it. If somehow they air and the show becomes a hit, then it would get another order, but going by the previously aired show, that's not likely to happen.

Are there more canceled show announcements coming or is everything not listed staying on? I thought there would be more announcements by now.

The networks are keeping quiet about their schedules right now due to the writers strike. Shows that are currently "on hiatus" that likely would have been cancelled might be brought back just to fill time. They are getting desperate for content and there are shows that might be able to pick up an audience, since people weren't watching the first time that they ran. When the strike is over I would expect a bunch of shows to enter TV Hell...

"Big Shots" will be back later this month to burn off the remaining episodes, but that should be it. "Cavemen" is "on hiatus", but since ratings were not good and critics panned it, my guess is that it's a gonnere, but that hasn't been confirmend yet. "Pushing Daisies" is set to return as is "Samantha Who?" after the writers strike.

The show didn't get very good ratings, and the writers strike effected it. No word what Fox is ultimately going to do, but it's not looking good. "Life", "Chuck", and "Dirty Sexy Money" are all suppposed to return. "Journeyman" and "Bionic Woman" are cancelled. The writers strike is holding up new production of scripted shows, so that's why shows like "Life" haven't been seen in a while. It's also why unscripted "reality" shows are being aired in droves. I wouldn't be surprised to see "Ugly Betty" return since in did fairly well and it's unscripted.

NBC mighta given up on "Bionic Woman", even though they say that making the last 5 eps for the 13-ep season will be their first order of business when the writers' strike is over.

Its ratings have steadily fallen, and once a show's ratings have thus sunk, & the show goes on hiatus, it never gets those ratings back, so look for BW to not return when all the eps in the can are aired. Gues we won't know for sure till the strike is over, so fanzz of the show, keep yer fingers crossed!

Is there anyway to stop the cancellation of this show? It is one of the few that I look forward to every week. I know the writers strike is going on, but is there any hope of this being able to return at some point after the strike? I hate when the networks bring on a cool show, then cancel it if it doesnt get the best ratings instead of putting it somewhere else in a different time slot. How about maybe a different network bringing it on? I'm willing to write as many Emails as it takes or sending as many snail mails as I have to, or even, dare I say it, sending peanuts to NBC.....pun intended.

There always is a small chance that someone else might pick it up, but I seriously doubt it. It was a ratings problem and not to do with the writers strike. It can't hurt to send an Email, but most likely this show is toast, unfortunately.

ABC has officially placed "Big Shots" on "hiatus", but looking at it's numbers, specifically the audience drop-off from it's lead-in show, and it's clear that this show is done. It was a pretty high profile show and I'm sure that the suits at ABC would like it to just fade away quietly...

"America's Psychic Challenge" is on hiatus from what I can find, but it's supposed to return. "Snapped" and "Captured" are both returning shows ("Captured" is new this Thursday 12/13). Subject: "Ratings"

I was curious about the new shows. I can't get any ratings or feedback on the net. Can you tell me what shows are most likely to get cancelled based on order size or lower ratings?

Well, looking at the most recent ratings, on the major networks, the shows that aren't posting well are: "Journeyman", "The Singing Bee", "Life", and "Friday Night Lights" on NBC. "Cane", and "Moonlight" on CBS, "Cavemen" and "Carpoolers" on ABC, "K-Ville", "Til Death", and "Next Great American Band" on FOX. The CW and MY TV Networks are harder to look at because the numbers for their shows are all pretty small in comparrison. None of these shows are tanking horribly, but I would say that any of them could be considered "on the bubble". The way to see how a show is performing is not only the ratings number (or "share"), but how it either retains or builds on their audience from the show before it and after it. For example, "Prison Break" on Fox over a 4 week period had an average of a 3 share (18-49 year olds) and "K-Ville" which follows it averaged a 2 share in the same demographic. That means people who were tuned into Fox left, so it didn't hold the audience from the lead-in and that's never a good sign. A lot of times the network will move a show that isn't performing to see if it would be a better fit next to a different show (if they believe in the show), but then if it still can't build, retain or hold an audience, it's gone.

A game show that involved dating couples who were matched up with singles and then sent out on respective dates. During the taping, they discussed their relationship, then their new dating experience. At the end of show the couples had to decide if they want to Stay Together, or if they've had a Change Of Heart. The last episode aired on September 12, 2003.

Obviously, HBO didn't cancel it, the writer/producer simply ended the series, but shouldn't the Sopranos be on your list? What did you think of the ending?

I had to think about the ending to make a call. At first I kind of thought that it was a cop-out to not wrap things up neatly, but after some reflection I think that it stayed with the theme of the show in that it was unexpected. It definately leaves room for a future movie as well. Still, it's not how I would have chosen to end the show, but since The Sopranos have always left the audience guessing after each season, this was right in line. I'm not sure how I would have ended it myself, so this works.

And Court TV's "Catherine Crier Live" is gone for good and also gone for good are "Jericho" after only one season and "Veronica Mars" after only three seasons and of "Close To Home" after only two seasons. After this summer's live telecast of "Miss Teen USA Pageant" for 2007, I suppose that NBC is dropping that live event for good or will it be picked up by another network right?

"According to Jim" will likely return this summer to burn off any unaired shows. I don't have any info on the Miss Teen USA Pagent", but I know that it didn't perform well. It may end up on NBC co-owned "Bravo", but that's just a guess.

A very good source has told me that "According to Jim" is finished due to a ratings decline and high salaries, what usually kills off shows after they've been on for a long time. "Jim" was never a ratings powerhous, but it performed well enough until this past season where show to show it lost viewers.

The 5th Wheel (Syndicated)
Initially hosted by Aisha Tyler, this was a dating show which revolved around two men and two women, all of whom were sent out on a joint date. Then a 5th provocative man or woman ("the fifth wheel") would join the group. At that point the participants would swap partners to learn more about them and to decide if they would like to go out with each other. The cameras would follow their every move, while commentary in the form of subtitles, animations, and "thought bubbles" was added by the show's producers. At the end, they would all vote on whom they would like to go out with, with the option of choosing "nobody" as well.
From what I found on IMDb, the show appears to have been cancelled sometime in 2004.

And after this week's 2 hour season finale of "The Bachelor: Officer and a Gentleman" there is no women tell all or after the final shows is there? And what's next to cancel or return next fall, "Maury" or even "Oprah?"

"Maury" isn't doing so well, but "Oprah" is still tops and won't be going away until she decides to quit. As far as I know, "Crossing Jordan", "What About Brian", and Trump's show are done for good.

"Scrubs" is "on the bubble". It's a costly show for NBC because of the salaries now involved, but ratings are favorable. According to Variety, they are leaning on the show being axed in favor of saving "30 Rock", which NBC feels has more life left in it than "Scrubs", which is at the end of its sixth season. My best guess is that it has one good season left, and even if NBC drops the show, somebody else will pick it up.
